Dig & Sit
Introducing, all the way from sunny Holland, the Dig&Sit, the latest colourful item to join the illustrious Jellyegg stock-list!
Invented in 2005 by the frankly BRILLIANTLY named ‘PronkDesigners’, a young Dutch design company, the Dig&Sit quickly began to get noticed by people who matter in the design industry. It first hit the shops in April 2006, and was a finalist in 2007’s ISPO Brand New Awards. That’s how brand new this thing is, it’s a contender for a Band New award!
So What Actually Is It?
It’s a sofa for the beach. It comes in a lightweight, easily transportable backpack and includes a handheld shovel with which you dig a shallow trench in the sand, then lay the Dig&Sit over it and recline, as though you were in the comfort of your own home.
After all, stereotypes and overgeneralisations aside, the Dutch are a laid–back bunch. Probably why they designed a piece of al fresco furniture which is so ideally suited to lay-back on, eh?
The designer of the Dig&Sit, Evert Pronk, believes that “the strength of the product lies in its simplicity”. Jellyegg agrees with Mr. Pronk. This stunningly uncomplicated concept permits a level of transportable comfort never before achieved.
Here Comes the Science Bit…
The Dig&Sit gets its lightweight comfort from two layers of damp proof PVC coated nylon. Your back is amply supported by the Dig&Sit’s quilted foam zones, which are coupled to further padding around the seating area. Around the edge of the Dig&Sit runs a 40cm wide run-off area that prevents sand from straying too far onto the seating area. There are built-in stainless steel eyes which when secured to the ground, prevent the corners from blowing up in the wind.
The Dig&Sit represents a new generation of outdoor comfort utilities!
