Narberth & the Crocs of Gold -
the Rainbow Shoes that Brought Good Fortune
The sleepy town of Narberth in Pembrokeshire west Wales does not seem the obvious place for a Crocs explosion, but happen it did at Jellyegg a small business in the Old town hall selling antiques and paintings. The Crocs first appeared thanks to Karen and her trend spotting ways and we all gave Crocs a chance despite not being overwhelmed by their beauty but like the saying goes it is on the eye of the beholder, the beholder of really comfy feet! See how our story unfolded and how Crocs slowly took over Jellyegg, Narberth and Great Britain!
Croeso to Crocs
At our shop we sell all kinds of gifts and quirky items to bring a little sunshine into people’s lives, Karen introduced Crocs to the shop on her own feet, soon all the staff were wearing them and a few of our customers were getting a little green so the only fair thing to do was to start stocking them. In 2006 with a timid 100 pairs we tested the water with a few classic Beach Crocs to see if people would snap them up and they up did with great enthusiasm.
Such was the success it was decided that we would branch out and open an online store which would introduce the rest of the UK to the joy of comfortable feet! The Mail on Sunday was the catalyst in the Crocs boom, once Great Britain had seen these wacky plastic shoes on the rich and famous they became a huge hit.
Crocs at every turn
Our online business took off rapidly and we had to employ half the town to help us keep up with the demand. Phones went mad, people packed furiously and the post office didn’t know what had hit them! Everyone pitched in and have thoroughly enjoying being part of the Crocs phenomenon. Many of our staff have been with us since the beginning of our Crocs experiment and are now bonafide Crocs experts. We now stock around 40,000 pairs of Crocs and over 60 designs so we have come a long way from our first 100 pairs of Beach Crocs.
We are proud to stock shoes that bring colour and comfort into people’s lives no matter where you wear them to work or a party. The range of work shoes has grown significantly and Jellyegg now supply everyone from nurses to chefs with practical comfortable footwear. We are immensely proud that we have maintained our down to earth and friendly customer service, we haven’t let fame go to our heads and nor will we.
Everyone who works at Jellyegg is thrilled that Narberth has been at the centre of the Crocs boom and that so many people in the town have helped out either through work or through displaying them on their feet. One thing’s for sure there are no sore feet in our little town anymore!
